Margaret M. Hennessy

Margaret M. “Peggy” Hennessy, nee Mullarkey, age 98, Native of Cloonacool, Co. Sligo, Ireland; longtime resident of Elmhurst and active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish; wife of the late Martin; loving mother of Mary (Tom) Ryan, Eileen (John) Kowalski, Kathleen (Philip) Ryan, Noreen (Paul) Gaughan and the late John (Diana) Hennessy; proud grandmother of Michael and Ashley Viglione, Patrick (Alyssa Deolitsis) Ryan, Sean, Bryan (Jessica) and Brendon Hennessy, Mckenzie (Shane) Stover, Ryan (Samantha) and Matthew Gaughan and great-grandmother of Madison, Kennedy, Rory and Myles; dear surviving sister of 9 siblings throughout Ireland and England. Peggy lived an incredible life spanning almost 10 decades. Emigrating from Ireland at age 22, she built a life focused on family and faith and friends. She made countless friends as she walked the streets of Elmhurst for miles on end; this kept her physically and mentally active throughout her lifetime. She never met a stranger who couldn’t become her friend. Everyone in Elmhurst knew her by name and her shock of pure white hair. Not surprisingly, she was adored by young and old. She made a lasting impact on those whose life she touched. During the past two years, it seemed that the residents of Market Square seldom agreed on anything. One issue that we could reach consensus on was that everyone adored strong, independent Peggy Hennessy. Market Square won’t be the same without Peggy.

I have such happy memories of a summer (1971c.) in Cloonacool spent with Aunt Peg, John & Noreen. May her memory be eternal. Sincere condolences to my cousins & extended family; wishing you strength & serenity at this difficult time.
