Robert John LeGere

Robert John LeGere, age 91, passed peacefully on Oct. 27, 2024, Bob will be remembered for having a great sense of humor and being a source of great knowledge. Bob was a fixture at hundreds of his 12 grandchildren’s baseball, soccer, football and basketball games, along with volleyball, gymnastics and swim meets plus countless school plays. As a fan of and cheerleader for his grandchildren, whose progress he faithfully followed from tee-ball through high school, Bob was as outspoken as he was in life. Somewhat surprisingly, he was only banished from one baseball game, which he still managed to see to its conclusion from behind the cover of a large pine tree in center-field. A member of the U.S. Army, and a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, Bob made 29 jumps. His patriotism continued unabated through the years. He attended Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades with family, especially the grandkids, and proudly wore his 82nd Airborne gear. As a homeowner, Bob had a love for maintaining a well-manicured lawn, working tirelessly on never-ending landscaping projects. However, in his later years, yard work often took a back seat to Little League games. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane nee Venziano, on Sept. 30, 2020. They met when both worked at Commonwealth Edison, she as a secretary and he as an operating lineman. Early in the relationship Bob told a friend, “I’m going to marry that girl.” The couple is survived by five children; Robert (Betty) LeGere, Renee (Richard) Regole, Bill (Ann) LeGere, Mary Susan “Tay,” (Tom) Parpan, and John (Shelly) LeGere. Bob took an active role in raising his children, instilling in them the values of hard work, accountability, loyalty, discipline and patriotism. Bob and Mary Jane are also survived by 11 grandchildren; Rick (Dana) Regole, Ryan LeGere, John Paul (Melissa) Regole, Dan LeGere, Luke (Tayler) Regole, Will LeGere, Tommy (Vanessa) Parpan, Aubrey (Rudy) Guthrie, Bobby (Taylor) LeGere, Jack Parpan, and Liam Parpan. One granddaughter, Annie LeGere, preceded them in death on August 26, 2015. The couple is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; Macklin, Millie, Ruby, Callum, Remy, Lilah, Rosey and Hudson.
