Alice Eby Smith, nee Rohe, 76, a native of Richmond, IN, died May 4 following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Smith was a 1965 graduate of Richmond High School. Her parents, John and Mary Jeannette, operated Bartel & Rohe office supplies in downtown Richmond, as well as Bartel & Rohe gift shop in the Richmond Square Mall, where Smith worked for several years. A longtime resident of Elmhurst; IL, she was a proud Gold Star Mother who served on their national board and volunteered at Hines Veterans Hospital. Smith is the beloved wife of Robert; loving mother of Margaret Maione, Jan (Bob) Urso, John Tucker, Caroline Smith and the late Jack Tucker, who was killed in the line of duty at Ft. Bragg, NC, in 1997. She is the cherished grandmother of Natalie, Sophia, Jack and Tommy Urso and Shelby and Jack Edward Tucker; and dear sister of George (Brenda) Rohe and Jack (LouAnne) Rohe. Visitation at 8am Friday, May 10, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Elmhurst, followed by a 10 am funeral mass at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside.
