Thomas “Tom” Schleiter of Montgomery Village, MD passed away suddenly on September 9th while being treated for a recurrence of cancer. Tom was born on August 21, 1931 in Evanston IL. He was a humble man of faith committed to his church and family. Tom received an undergraduate degree from the University of Detroit and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and later worked for the Atomic Energy Commission, the Department of Energy, and the Argonne National Laboratory. Tom settled in Montgomery Village, Maryland where he was a devoted member of St. John Neumann Catholic Parish. There he shared his beautiful voice by lecturing at church along with his tremendous kindness and concern for others. He was a generous supporter of the Loaves and Fishes food pantry. As a young boy, Tom sang with the Paulist Choristers of Chicago. As an adult, he continued to share his love for music by singing in the Gaithersburg Chorus. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Loretta and Gerhard Schleiter and brother Reverend Robert Schleiter. He is survived by his brother Richard (Lucille), niece Susan (Steve), nephew John (Dori), his great nephews Matthew, Nicholas and Grant and great niece Lauren and kind and caring neighbors and friends. Tom’s warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, October 18, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 South York Road, (at Madison), Elmhurst. Interment Private.
