Thu T. Tran

Thu T. Tran sadly passed away surrounded by her loved ones on March 9, 2023 at the age of 85.  Thu was born in Vietnam and in 1975 fled to America with her husband and children.  Through connections with Immaculate Conception Parish, the family made their home in Elmhurst, Illinois.  Thu became a loved and respected member of the community and was an employee at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years.  Thu dedicated her life being a wonderful and loving wife and mother.  She supported her family through the many triumphs and difficulties of their lives, as she was the backbone of the family.  Thu was passionate about cooking and gardening.  Along with filling her home with warmth and kindness, she prepared an abundance of Vietnamese dishes and other delicious recipes unique to her.  Thu’s talents for gardening were legendary.  Just as she did with her children, with skill and hard work, she nurtured vegetables and herbs to their fullest potential in her extraordinary backyard garden.  There are simply not enough words to describe what Thu meant to her family and the impression she left on the people who were fortunate to know her.  She will be greatly missed.  Thu was preceded in death by her father and mother Thau and Kha, brothers Toan and Cap, and sister Van.  She is survived by her loving husband Phan Van Tran; dear brother Nhan and sisters Cat and Tram; her cherished eight children: Mai (Trung) Nguyen, Oanh Kim Tran (Phi Nguyen), Chi (Ken) Phu, Scott Tran, Ly (Doug) Smith, The’ (Cheryl) Tran, Tuyen (Mike) Statler and Arthur (Carisa) Tran; proud grandmother of fifteen: Cathy (Peter) Kud, Cindy (Ilya) Ossipovskaya, Christie (Steven) Ainge, Kelli, Nikki, Lukas, Nathan, Jaden, Vin, Sage, Hannah, Matthew, Mia, Madison and Tae; and great-grandmother of six: Helen, Hannah, Rockford, Estee, William and Emily.  The family requests, in lieu of flowers and memorial contributions, your presence at the Mass and Interment and please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.  Visitation is on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Street in Elmhurst.  Funeral Mass is on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 134 Arthur Street in Elmhurst.  Interment at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Road in Hillside.  For funeral information, please call 630-832-0018 or www.gibbonsfuneralhome.com
