Mary T. McCarthy

Mary T. McCarthy, nee McNamara, age 69, of Elmhurst (formerly Oak Park and River Forest) died on December 12, 2022, surrounded by her family. Mary is the beloved mother of David (Meghan) McCarthy; the cherished, playful grandmother of Emerson Ross and Ronan Edward McCarthy; the dear sister of Fran (Larry) Jones, Michael McNamara, Kathy McNamara, and Janet (Alex) Oschmjansky; the loving aunt of Tim Jones, Brian Jones, Beth Lubotsky, Megan McNamara, Sean McNamara, Dan Oschmjansky, and Clover Oschmjansky; the doting great-aunt to many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a tirelessly attentive friend to countless people throughout her life. No hobbies ever rivaled her love for family, but she found joy and inspiration in every corner of life: In the music of Chicago, The Beatles, Steve Winwood, and Stevie Wonder. In the beauty of the weather, sunsets, the moon, and summers at Lake Lawn. In the early morning silence of prayer and reflection. In books and movies where the kindness of people shine bright. In other peoples’ laughter and a good-natured sense of humor, like a well-told knock-knock joke. And in sports at every level, from the Chicago Cubs to her grandchildren’s soccer and baseball teams, where she basked in the beauty of selfless teamwork, the collective hope of the underdog, and the effort and passion of her favorite players, especially her grandchildren. Mary was a longtime, dedicated employee of Republic Services and a former student at St. Giles, Trinity High School, Triton College, and St. Joseph’s College. Visitation will take place Monday, December 19, from 8:00 a.m. until time of prayers at 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 134 Arthur St, Elmhurst. Interment Private.
