Carlotta Lawton

Carlotta Lawton, nee Fila, age 79, longtime resident of Elmhurst and faithful and active member of Visitation Parish; current resident of the Oak Brook Club; beloved wife of Robert T. “Bob” for 58 years; devoted mother of Karen (Bob) Russ, Mark, Craig(Maggie), Becky (Mike)Wagner and Matt; cherished grandmother of Ryan, Brendan, William, and Lucy Russ, Ella and Jack Lawton and Alysa, Natalie, Anabelle Lawton; dear sister of Richard (Sherry) Fila, Marlene Fila and the late Tom Fila; dear aunt of many nieces and nephews. Carlotta and Bob met while attending DePaul University and married shortly after, eventually settling in Elmhurst where they started their family. Carlotta and Bob understood the value of Catholic education and were determined to make the sacrifices necessary to provide this for their children. With determination and faith they proudly sent their children to Visitation Grade School and either Immaculate Conception High School or Fenwick High School. Parish life and service was also very important to Carlotta and she showed this through her active role at Visitation Parish in Elmhurst. Serving as President of Visitation’s Council of Catholic Women, President of the Diocese of Joliet’s CCW, and President of the East-South DuPage Deanery Council. In 2012, during the Visitation CCW’s 60th anniversary, Carlotta was honored for “lending her helping hands” for more than 35 years. In addition to her commitment to service, Carlotta had a strong commitment to her faith as a devoted and dedicated adorer at Visitation’s Perpetual Adoration Chapel for more than 20 years. She also had a strong sense of protection for the unborn and the Pro-Life movement throughout the State of Illinois. Family was never far from Carlotta’s focus always making sure to attend her children’s and later in life her grandchildren’s many athletic events and other extracurricular activities. Carlotta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother with a deep love for the Virgin Mary. Visitation Thursday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst.
