John Patrick Leen

John Patrick Leen, age 90, passed away peacefully August 29, 2021; beloved husband of Frances, nee Connolly; loving father of Patrick Joseph (Laura) and John Bernard (Jordan) Leen; cherished grandfather of Brianna Catherine, Ella Grace, John Patrick, and Eamon Joseph Leen; dear brother of Madonna Leen and the late Terry (the late Jessica) Leen; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. John is a graduate of the University of Michigan and proudly served in the US Army as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. John began his career with the Cook County Forest Preserve between his college graduation and his military service. John would eventually retire from the Illinois EPA, where he worked as an Inspector. The last several years, John has enjoyed his retirement as an active member of St. James the Apostle Parish in Glen Ellyn where he served as a lector and choir member. He was a proud participant in with Messengers of Hope, a choral group that entertained nursing home residents. Visitation Thursday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst and Friday, 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. at Saint James the Apostle Catholic Church, 480 S. Park, Glen Ellyn. Interment Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Brick by Brick project or the Sisters of Charity BVM, Dubuque, Iowa.
