David Maze Saxman

David Maze Saxman, age 89 of Oak Brook, Illinois, passed away July 16, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Dave was surrounded by his loving wife Sandra J. Saxman and his five children as he left this earth peacefully. Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Rev. Walter C.B. Saxman and his wife, Ruth Maze Saxman, Dave grew up mostly in Clarkston, Michigan and graduated from Albion College in 1953. After graduating college, David briefly attended graduate school at Northwestern University before opting for a career at RR Donnelley & Sons, a printing company, where he spent the majority of his 38 year career in sales mostly in the Chicago area. Dave’s career was briefly interrupted so that he could serve his country in the U.S. Army during
the Korean War. Having achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Dave spent a large part of his life with the Boy Scouts of America culminating in several local leadership positions. After retirement, Dave spent much of his time volunteering at Elmhurst Hospital (about a decade), as a committeeman for the Republican Party in York 45, as an Usher at Christ Church of Oak Brook for many years and was a member of the Oak Brook Civic Association. Dave enjoyed playing golf and spending time with friends, wife Sandi and his five children, sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. David married his second wife, Sandra J. Saxman in 1968, who survives him, and was preceded in death by his first wife Lucy B. Saxman. Dave is also survived by daughter Suzanne L. Saxman and her husband Peter M. Labadie, daughter Cynthia S. Spivack and her husband Andrew L. Spivack, son Jeffrey J. Saxman and fiancé Andrea Bush, son Timothy D. Saxman and his wife Barbara A. Saxman, daughter Elizabeth A. Martirano and her husband Dr. Michael Martirano, Jr. and his faithful caregiver and friend Joseph G. Bermoy. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis S. Holman and her husband Richard T. Holman. Visitation will be Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service 11:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road) Elmhurst.
