Patrick Kieran Hughes, age 76, native of Curracrow, Co. Mayo, Ireland; passed away peacefully at home in Paw Paw, Michigan. Patrick was an associate and lifetime member of The Emerald Society of Illinois and a member of The Stewart’s Club. Patrick was happiest buying and selling antiques with his wife Nancy, as well as spending time with family and grandchildren. He had a joyful spirit and was always there to offer help when needed. As a young man, Patrick won medals for Irish dancing, singing, and a scholarship for advanced Gaelic studies. He worked with Patrick Sweeney in a traveling shop on Achill Island where he was beloved by the locals for his gift of gab and kindness to children. He came to America in 1964, and was a natural salesman. He started his own pest control company, Hughes Pest Control, which grew into Norshore Distributing. He was a lifelong collector of everything, to the point his Mother had to sew his pockets shut to prevent having to continually fix the holes in them. As an adult, he had the best spot, and was a favorite stop for antique collectors at the Kane County Flea Market for his doorknobs, hardware, and stained glass. This love of collecting brought him to his next business adventure, Shamrock Recycling, where family and friends could stop by, find something interesting, and have a good craic. Patrick was the beloved husband of Nancy, nee Nicholson; loving father of Eileen Rattin, Catherine Trompeter, Heather Hughes, Patrick Hughes, Colleen Dawdy, and Kiren Hughes; Devoted grandfather of Gavin, Patrick, Brendan, Aidan, Maeve, Kevin, Annie, Mickey, Jack, Rian, and Sean; Dear brother of Michael, James, Peter, Tommy and Richard Hughes, Margaret McMahon, Catherine Commons, and the late Agnes Mahoney, Mary O’Beirne and John Hughes.
