Wednesday February 13, 2019 was clear, bright, breezy, just a beautiful chilly winter’s day. With ice from the previous day’s storms coating everything outside, the tree tips danced in the breeze and with the sun shining on the ice, at a far, the tree tips looked like tiny clear twinkling Christmas lights or tinsel at a distance. It was wonderful and memorable another example of beauty and provision from the hand of our Lord..
Early that same morning of Wednesday, February 13, 2019, Mrs. Jan Johnson had a life changing experience one that we all must also experience once in our lifetime. At around 1:00 AM Jan died. Her age impaired human physical body left behind ceased to function, but as a devoted redeemed believer in Christ her soul along with a new perfect heavenly body continues to forever live only now in heaven. Christ’s death and Resurrection guarantees the same for all believers. Who would not wish the same for themselves, friends, or family members? The Grace of our Lord and Savior is offered to all.
Only four months and four days earlier Jan’s husband, Don, was similarly called to his heavenly home. While here on earth and as a long time member of Immanuel Jan served her church and fellow members in many ways. She was an accomplished musician professionally teaching flute and piano to many of our school children over many years. For years she served the Sunday School and VBS as music leader and accompanist. Likewise for many years she accompanied the senior choir in their practices and church performances. I don’t remember ever hearing a missed or off note. 🙂 Shut-in visitors have told me that in spite of the physical disabilities old age had burdened Jan with that even at 87 she remained mentally sharp as a tack, joy filled, alert, and a pleasure to be with right up until her end of life. Well done Jan and thank you for all you gave to Immanuel and friends.
Jan’s two children, Jeff and Julie, are inviting family and friends to join them for a viewing and visitation beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 142 East Third St., Elmhurst, IL. Jan’s Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM followed by Interment at Mt. Emblem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elmhurst.
