Stanley J. Biskup

Stanley J. Biskup, age 97, Native of Chicago, currently of Elmhurst, beloved husband of the late Joan B., nee Palasz; loving father of Rosemary (James) Saunders, James Biskup, Richard (Annie) Biskup, George (Bernadette) Biskup and the late William (the late Mary, nee Parmet); cherished grandfather of Matthew Saunders, Dean, Darren, Brian (Sibel), Jennifer (Stephen) DuPerre, Allison Biskup and great-grandfather of Evren & Alara Biskup, Logan DuPerre, Austin Baker; dear brother of Helen (Hillard) Bielat, Edward (Loretta) and the late Andrew (Olga) and the late Joseph (the late Mary); cherished son of the late John and Louise, both immigrants from Poland; A WWII Veteran, Stanley enlisted in the Army in 1940. He was assigned to Wheeler Field in Oahu, Hawaii July 1941, as an Airplane Mechanic. On December 7th 1941 he was part of the American Troops surprised by the attacks on “a date which will live in Infamy”. In 1943 Stanley was transferred to the Army Air Corps and attended Flight school. Upon graduation, Stanley was assigned to a B-24 Bomber as a Navigator, part of the 489 Bomb Group of the 846th Squadron of the 8th Air Force. On June 2nd 1944, Stanley’s B-24 was shot down over occupied France where he was captured by the Germans and taken POW in Stalag Luft #3. His Camp ultimately was liberated by George Patton’s Troops in 1945. 2nd Lieutenant Stanley was awarded the “ Chevalier de la Legion D’ Honneur” by the President of France for his role in the United States defense of France. In 1945, Stanley married Joan (Palasz) then moved to Elmhurst in 1951, where they became pillars of the community for 66 years. He graduated from IIT with a Degree in Industrial Engineering and was employed by Brody Seating Company for 40+ years. Stanley loved fishing, golfing and enjoying his family and grandchildren. Visitation Wednesday, August 30, 2017, 8:00 a.m until time of funeral 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst.
