John F. Gorman, 85, a fifty-one year resident of Elmhurst, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Catherine Gorman, nee Sugrue, and his devoted aunts Lucy and Victoria Costello.
A graduate of St. Catherine ’45, Fenwick ’49, and DePaul ’54, with a JD ’64 & LLM ’80, also from DePaul; retired in 2012 after thirty years as an attorney in private practice; previously a CPA, and executive of the Illinois Brick Co. Active in his community, he was a leader on local and regional school boards for more than twenty years.
The beloved husband of the late Mary Virginia Gorman, nee Strauch; loving father of Robert (Maureen), Lawrence, Terese (Gregory) Black, Christine, Maura, John Francis and the late John Joseph Gorman; cherished grandfather of Kyle (Courtney) and Cassandra (Chase Hamilton) King; Alexander, Kathleen, Mary Frances, Monica, and Magdalen Black; John Jacob, Jacqueline, and Julian Gorman; and Teresa, Seamus, and Pearse Gorman; proud great-grandfather of the delightful Declan King; and dear brother of Thomas Gorman, Alice (Ron) French, and Sandra (Bob Beiter) Gorman.
Visitation Wednesday, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road (½ mile N of St. Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 am at Visitation Catholic Church. Internment at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside.
