James Gleason Bauer

James Gleason Bauer, age 82, of Elmhurst, passed away after a brief illness; beloved husband of Patricia, nee Harmon, for over 57 years; loving father of Julie A. (Paul Greenberg) and the late Lisa C.; proud grandfather of Betsy Greenberg; brother of Mary C. (the late James) Aldridge and the Hon. William J. (Hon. Patricia Spratt and the late Mike) and brother-in-law of Sheila (Keith) Lewis, Mary (John) Donahue and the late Richard Harmon; son of the late Lucille, nee Gleason and the late William F. Bauer; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Jim was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar School and High School, (ICHS Class 1951), the University of Wisconsin (A.B.1955), and Depaul University College of Law (J.D. 1958). He was a longtime partner in the Elmhurst law firm of Bauer & Hotte. Jim served as a director of the DuPage County Bar Association, member of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Character & Fitness, and as an assistant attorney general of the State of Illinois. He also served as president of the Illinois Savings & Loan Association, a director of Elmhurst National Bank and as a member of the Elmhurst Human Relations Commission and Tree Towns Water Commission. Following his retirement Jim served as a docent with the Chicago Architecture Foundation and the Hemingway Birthplace and Museum. An avid reader and lifelong learner, he also took courses with the Newberry Library, Elmhurst College, University of Chicago and Cambridge University. Last, but not least, Jim was also known to be a walking encyclopedia on everything Baseball. Visitation Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m .and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. until time of funeral 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery.
