Jean E. McKiernan

Jean E. McKiernan, nee Monahan, Native of Savannah, formerly of Elmhurst and New York, currently of Hoffman Estates; beloved wife of John for over 45 fabulous years; loving mother of Michael (Catherine), Jennifer (Chris) Lindberg, Katharine (Brian) Mendenhall and Ted (Beth); proud grandmother of Isobel, Sean, Conor, Lucas, Emma, Audrey, Patrick and Ryan; dear sister of Maureen Undine, Patricia Monahan and Terry Courrier; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Jean was a proud alumnus of Visitation Grade School and Immaculate Conception High School and went on to graduate from Marquette University with a BA in History. It was there that she met her husband John and the great adventure began. Jean, who hated to fly, became quite the world traveler when John was a lieutenant in the Navy serving in Vietnam. She flew to Hong Kong to visit him in 1970, which was the start of a great many trips to locales such as Hawaii, the Caribbean, nearly every one of the United States, as well as her favorite spot, Ireland, to visit her grandchildren more than 20 times in 15 years. Jean was by every account a wonderful mother to her four children, and an even better grandmother to her grandchildren. Grateful to her are her sons, daughters and their families. For those of you who knew Jean, you know what a great friend she was to all, what a loving wife and mother she was, and how she was always willing to do whatever she could to make the whole world a better and happier place. Her children and her husband John want everyone to know how wonderful she was, truly the light of our lives. Visitation Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. until time of funeral 8:45 a.m at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst.
