Richard C. Zimmerman, MD, age 78, former President of Staff at Elmhurst and Good Samaritan Hospitals; member DuPage Medical Group; Dr. Zimmerman practiced in the Western Suburbs for over 30 years before his retirement; Beloved husband of Joy, nee Bradford; loving father of David Jonathon (Patricia) and Paula Joy (Sean) Creed; proud grandfather of Carl, David and Patrick Zimmerman and Meghan and Caitlin Creed. Visitation Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 10:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst.     Dear Zimmerman family,
    I first met Dick when I joined the Good Samaritan Hospital staff in 1977, months before the hospital opened. He was seeing patients in one of the hospital rooms while awaiting office space. We were both “plank owners” in Good Sam. Dick was the quintessential physician: smart, steady, reliable, good natured, widely respected—I could go on. He was “my” doctor, the first one I sought out when I had a problem. Eventually I followed him as a Medical Staff President and I sought his advice many times while in that position. He was a colleague and a valued friend. I am sorry he is gone.
    May God rest his soul and also console you in your loss.
