John E. Gow

John E. Gow, devoted husband of Olivia, nee Greco, for 52 years; loving and proud father of John and Anne; cherished and doting grandpa of Sara. John was born March 5, 1931 in Attleboro, Massachusetts.  He graduated from Wilbraham Academy, earned a B.A. from Allegheny College, an M.A. from University of Iowa and an M.S. from I.I.T. . He taught speech communication at Elmhurst College from 1961-1993.  After retirement he served as a voice of reason as an Elmhurst City Council alderman for 12 years.  A lifelong Dodger fan, an avid tennis player, a good and gentle man yet a warrior in his fight against cancer.  With incredible courage and optimism, John battled both prostate cancer and multiple myeloma for 17 years.  Visitation Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst.  Mass Thursday, 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  Burial Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery.  For funeral information please call 630-832-0018 or www.gibbonsfuneralhome.com
