Mary Evelyn Dyer, nee Burke, of Elmhurst, entered eternal life Thursday, January 30th. She was the beloved wife of the late Clifford E Dyer Jr. for almost 70 years. During that time life took them from Iowa to Pennsylvania, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and back to Iowa before returning home to Illinois. Also preceding her in death were her parents, John and Maytie (Stuedeman) Burke, and her two brothers William Burke and James Burke. She is survived by her children, Thomas (Mary Ann), David (Debra Ann), and Diane (James) Byrne; her grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey (Laurie Parish), Barbara (Lamine) Dyer-Diagne, David Jr., and Dr. Christianne (Jason) Brown; her great-grandchildren, Josephine and Alexandra Brown; her sisters-in-law Grace Burke and Donna Burke and her nieces, nephews and friends. A native of Clinton, Iowa, Mary Evelyn was a graduate of Mount Saint Clare College. In addition to being a primary grade school teacher – at one point teaching all eight grades in a one room school house – she was an accomplished pianist and organist and for many years served as a liturgical music minister at parishes in Iowa and Illinois. In addition to following current events, she was a voracious reader and avid bridge player. Visitation Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Friends and family will meet Thursday, February 6, 2014 for a Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1400 Kiwanis Drive, Freeport, IL.
