Robert L. Noonan, resident of Elmhurst for over 50 years, Army veteran of the Korean War; graduate of Campion High School, Prairie Du Chien, WI and University of Notre Dame, Class of 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering; Bob worked in the Chicago metal working industry for over 50 years and in 1960 founded Noonan Machine Co.. He designed and manufactured the first hydraulically operated ball grinding machine for the bearing industry and was an active member of the Tooling and Mfg. Association with time served as President and member of Board of Directors. Bob also served as Chairman and Trustee on the association’s Group Insurance Trust until his retirement in 2001. Bob was a Director of the former Elmhurst National Bank and Director of Old Kent Bank with over 15 years of service before his retirement in 1993. He was a longtime tennis player in the Elmhurst area , organizing tennis leagues and playing competitive singles into his late seventies. After his retirement he spent winter in the Palm Beach area. Bob is the beloved husband of Jeanne, nee Roach, for over 57 years; loving father of Donna, Nancy, Joanne and William (Lori); proud grandfather of Courtney (Stephen) Post, Emily, Sean and Kaley Noonan; dear brother of Patrick (Wendy) Noonan and Virginia (the late Jack) Rogers. Visitation Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, 8:00 a..m. until time of funeral 9:00 a.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (½ mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery.
